Alcon stands by their original intention to make the next "Blade Runner" movie as a "total reinvention" of the series, while maintaining connections to the original film. Most took this as a sign that Ford would not return, and Kosove previously said as much, explaining "In no way do I speak for Ridley Scott but if you're asking me will this movie have anything to do with Harrison Ford, the answer is no." As for whether Kosove thought Ford could, in theory, come back, he left it open to development. "In advance of knowing what were going to do, I supposed you could say yes, he could," Kosove said. "But I think it is quite unlikely." It's currently unclear when Scott will direct his return to "Blade Runner." Recent reports have pegged Cormac McCarthy's "The Counselor" as a likely next project.
