Read Terrence Malick's 1979 Script Notes in the Tree of Existence Precursor Qasida
When Vital gave a publish-Times of Paradise Terrence Malick $a million, carte blanche, to create his next film, he started creating a highly ambitious project about the roll-out of existence and also the cosmos titled Qasida (or, simply, Q). Obviously, the studio balked in the abstract Malick-ness from it all, the film delayed, and also the director required the following 2 decades removed from filmmaking. But! You can now read Malick’s own Q script notes, circa 1979, and picture how his globe-trotting Q eventually morphed into this season’s Tree of Existence. Excerpted all Things Shining (via Movie City News): A. Script a. skeleton, but may wish to you must do everything that's there b. prosaic, but more things coming that'll be fantastic c. constantly altering different emotions - never return to same one - each one of these emotions are on the planet, we would like to bring them out. … p. 3 First Light (laser) a. laser will burglary, abide by itself b. light show: different types of symmetry c. music strong and triumphant, like “Hallelujah Chorus,” then cutting loose, not resulting in anything d. eventually, first shot of cosmos … p. 3 [sic] Volcanoes - Infant Earth - Evening (Paul) a. locations: Mountain visit production manage, get permits must book this well ahead of time (speak with Robert Duvall re: Ganges river project also American Sportsperson) 1. Yellowstone (Geysers, geothermal power areas) - tight angles 2. Chile Atacama Desert (smoking volcanoes, no snow in Chilean summer time) - wider angles 3. Rift Valley (Kenya, Tanzania) 4. Iceland (fumeroles and Ice Age) 5. Hawaii (Volcanoes and Rainforest, high jungle) b. Contact CSLP, SEAN, Volcanologists c. no scouting outings, just send small deck hands with cameras (Arri III, Canon primes, best available contacts, etc.) d. shot during the night so no plant life problem e. possibly use fog filters … f. Search engine marketing (Jim): 4200 line resolution shoot black and whitened on color film avoid jelly bean look Ah, right. Can’t have that dreaded jelly bean look. But seriously: Q sounds as beautiful and enchanting because the cosmic sequences it inspired in Tree of Existence, plus much more impenetrable. An amount Sean Penn model of it? Read much, a lot more over whatsoever Things Shining (link below). Terrence Malick’s Script Notes for Q [Everything Shining]
